I am feeling sorry for the students of India burdened with intellectual workload

There has been discussions on reducing the learning burden of school kids; but the learning burden is just increasing. This is because the educational administrators, the teachers, the parents, and the public are aimless on the goals of the education system.

The school curriculum is framed by educationalists who are 'arm chair intellectuals'. They are not economists, psychologists, sociologists or planners. They are just teachers who have been teaching all the time and know nothing else other than teaching. So they follow what has been followed traditionally. They do not have the capacity to think what the society needs.

Teacher Education Career is Road to Doom!!

Never think of becoming a teacher educator if you are not rich enough to pay donation at a private aided college for getting a lecturer post. Out of some 230 B.Ed colleges in the Kerala State 17 are aided colleges 4 are government colleges and the rest 90% are in private/self financing sector, meaning teaching shops.

Chances of getting job in government college is less; only state government school teachers who have qualifications manage to get it; they are given priority in appointment.

In the aided colleges that are run by religious institutions mostly they look at your caste and religion besides the amount of money you would give as 'donation', which should be several lakhs; means these posts are reserved for the rich and powerful.

Most likely one is likely to get employed in a private or self financing institution with monthly pay not more that what a mason or carpenter gets. And you could loose your job even if you go for maternity leave. You are not a teacher or a human; you are a product, a commodity -a factor that decides whether the institution will be profitable or not.

Never pursue M.Ed or PhD in Education; Look before you Leap. You career could be doomed and you will find yourself crying the whole life if you think that teacher education as a noble career and decide to pursue it. Study what happens to the teacher educators before you choose the career

Kerala State Syllabus 9th Std. student learning computer..stupid computer education

I had written in this blog before that Information Technology curriculum is created in a most ridiculous manner, with students forced to cram up stuff.

Instead of taking a person into a pond to teach swimming, what nonsense it would be to ask him to write an essay on how to swim!!

Computer education make students hate computers.. this should not be the way to administer computer education.

Following are the photos of a 9th Std. student learning computers for half yearly exam:

Who will save our Education System?

Who will save our kids from the BORES who frame the syllabus and execute it blindly and deafly?

Kerala 8th Std. Social Science Question Paper: shameful and pathetic ignorance of question setters

See the poor English used here. Kerala school children are unlucky to have these sub-standard persons as their teachers. There is something wrong with the teacher recruitment and teacher training.

The pathetic English used in Std. 8 State Syllabus half yearly exam question paper...

See instead of 'half yearly exam' it is 'half year exam''; what is this 'cool of time'? Why it is not "Std. VIII" instead of "std VIII"?

please see question 7 (c)
"can a person standing a point B? Why?"
what sort of English is this?
Even the typist who typed this question paper does not know that a sentence should start with capital letter and that a full stop should be adjacent to last letter of a line.
Q.2. The sentence should have started with capital 'W'. It would be better if '..services of a commercial bank' instead of 'services of commercial bank' is used

Mumbai school 'asks' students to buy iPads

Computer Education in schools -making students hate computers

Ever since I bought my PC at home, I had got addicted to computers. Purchasing a laptop later and getting a broadband connection actually made me more and more addicted. I had a hundred things to do with computers.

I have been using MS Office run in MS Windows and have been quite happy with these programs. Lately, I am using cloud software such as Google documents for most of my works. It is so comfortable.
I never used programs like LOGO or Ubundu. Just heard of it. I didn't want to switch over. But when I see my school kids forced to learn these programs though they are not likely to use it ever, I feel sorry for them. Some ideology crazy leftists might have mooted this idea of free software in school education. School kids are learning something to satisfy the ideological perceptions of these so called intellectuals. Why shouldn't we teach students something that the whole world is using? Why do we want to start our experiments and ideological acrobats with poor school kids?

The computer education is designed in most crazy manner. School kids are fond of games and umpteen interesting computer software and the net.  They just need to be given opportunity to use the computer and the broadband and given guidance on how to search the net and find information. Many software are so user friendly that kids will learn not only computer usage but also their curricular subjects also using computes and broadband net. But they are being tortured by designing a computer curriculum that forces them to cram up day to day operations in the computers. It is like teaching them how to swim by making them cram up statements like 'first lift your right hand, force water backwards, hold your breath, beat your legs in the water..." and make them write exams on this; instead of taking them to water and guide them how to swim. The school computer education is rubbish in concept and design.

Private / Self financing teachers must start strike against low pay

Nurses all over India has started strikes against exploitation by hospital managements. It is time that private school teachers and private college teachers and B.Ed college teachers too started fighting against exploitation and low salaries

NCTE is a lame duck; B.Ed mafia is unassailable

We have a national council called National Council for Teacher Education. Teacher education institutions are supposed to get its approval for running their institutions. And NCTE has created many dos and don'ts and documents for setting standards of teacher education institutions. At one point of time it appeared that it will be effective. Later on the B.Ed college management mafia seems to have usurped them and had their upper hand. Now they are free to appoint teacher educators (B.Ed faculty) without NET (National Eligibility Test) and pay meager remuneration to the teachers and bypass almost all the NCTE norms.

And the funniest thing is that a B.Ed college actually do not need NCTE approvals. It can even function without that. Because NCTE is not giving degree certificates to B.Ed colleges, Universities do that. And the Universities do not have any problem in granting B.Ed certificates to the students from institutions not approved by NCTE. So students too have no problem studying in unapproved institutions. There is no Law here. Universities are also making money out of self financing B.Ed colleges directly run by them. And the profits from these institutions come from the underpayment of faculty members- the persons who are supposed to be crucial players in imparting teacher education.

Thus, since the interests of private B.Ed mafia and the Universities coincide. Government is in their hands, because most of the private institutions are run by so called minority institutions. Minorities are politically powerful than the majorities in places like Kerala. So the government is also closing its eyes to the violations of NCTE norms. And the NCTE has no tooth and nails to enforce its norms. Besides, the B.Ed mafia is said to be bribing NCTE teams or spread the rumour that this is happening. Altogether, it is the teacher educators, the B.Ed faculty who are suffering. And the State as a whole. B.Ed colleges function like teaching shops, with a bunch of demotivated educators who can't even win their bread and butter from this occupation!

General Knowledge should be defined

"All the knowledge in this world" is at present termed as General Knowledge. Or is it "the information collected by the General Knowledge textbook writer" or "the information sought by the person who sets the questions"

How can anybody, let alone a child, study every knowledge 'under the Sun' and above the Sun and be prepared for the questions to come? The child who has learned the questions that the questioning person asks (most probably the person asks information contained in some GK textbook) wins a GK test.

It is simply stupid.

Why should a school child know the capitals of all the countries in this world? There is only a tiny probability that he would ever use it or need it. Of course, he may need to know the important capitals, say, 20 or 30 countries... but not more...definitely not. But the GK test and textbooks would contain a list of all the countries in this world and their capitals.

Likewise, most of the questions asked to a child in the General Knowledge tests are irrelevant and unwanted. This trend creates a situation where the urban child and the middle class child faces heavy pressure from its parents to learn GK and face the sorrow of failing in the tests. General Knowledge is included in many tests for recruitment and also admission to higher education.

The educational administrators of the state and centre must realise that even General Knowledge must have a definite contents. It is cruel to expect the candidates to learn every knowledge in this universe. It is practically impossible for any human to do that and neither is it necessary. Pressure on individuals to learn excess of information will lead to wastage of huge quantity of man hours spent on learning all these irrelevant things.

We should define essential and non-essential things. The textbook makers and curriculum makers must act responsibly. It is time that they realise the practical aspects of education

Nigerians know better about teacher education than Kapil Sibal

Education reform should begin with teacher education

http://www.tribune.com.ng/index.php/features/31437-education-reform-should-begin-with-teacher-education-

Written by Kehinde AdioFriday, 18 November 2011

HUMAN capital development process  originated from teacher education where trainers are trained to produce quality future leaders. Based on this established fact, the need to develop and promote constructive teacher training colleges cannot be overemphasised both in the developed and developing countries like Nigeria.
The Provost, Federal College of Education (Special) Oyo, Dr Emmanuel Adeniyi, belongs to the school of thought that shares the opinion that  unless  education reform begins from colleges of education, the purpose of the reform may not be achieved .  This is because  the quality of  teachers determines the quality of the  end products of primary and secondary schools that proceed  to the tertiary institutions for professional training in various fields.
In a chat with the Nigerian Tribune recently, Dr Adeniyi expressed dissatisfaction over  the non-challant attitude of Nigerians   towards  the teaching profession and the colleges of education where they are being produced. According to him, people seem to forget that  all other professions in the economy ; lawyers, medical doctors, pilots and the rest of them,  must  pass through the teacher at their primary and secondary school levels.
“ Then, if we mean business with our education reform in the country, let us start the reform process from the teachers and the colleges where they are being trained.
First and foremost, To attracts able hands and brilliant students in the profession, the profession must be made attractive with good remunerations, good welfare packages and other incentive for their retention attraction in the profession. Moreover, the colleges where they receive the training must be well equipped in terms of teaching facilities, conducive learning environment,  with scholarship and other learning incentives for the students.

Education sector must not dwell in dreamland

A society functions only when it consists of people skilled in a variety of professions and there are workers.

Our school curriculum is designed by 'armchair intellectuals' who have no idea what a society is.

Majority of Indians are employed as agriculture labourers, industrial workers, drivers, small shopkeepers, craftsmen, artists, skilled labourers, in construction industry etc.

Is our school curriculum suitable to such people?
Why should curriculum makers assume that the ultimate aim of every child is to become doctors, engineers and managers?

The school curriculum presently creates a competition for the top posts...Why these posts are considered top?

Because you don't need much physical work, and a lot of opportunity to become rich. But a doctor or engineer cannot become that rich in his lifetime. Only businessmen can. If a doctor or engineer become rich in his profession, it is because either he is doing business ..selling his profession.. which is business. Being a government servant if he becomes rich then he must be involved in corruption

If the minimum wages of other professions are raised and enforced then many other professions are equally attractive as the most coveted ones at present.

The curriculum load must be reduced and modified to suit the future of the child, the profession he is going to enter.

At present school curriculum makes manual labour a shameful thing. Only intellectual power is considered worth in school system. And the school kills the attitude towards work in school children and make them feel that doing manual labour is shameful, while becoming a manager who get things done is something great..

Teach students skilled labour and unskilled labour

Most of the population is going to be labourers.. not owners of businesses, not engineers or doctors or IAS..

Most students when they grow up will be unemployed with high qualifications. And due to competition in the white collar fields and the tendency of government agencies to exploit, and rather show the private sector the ways to exploit, most educated people working in the private sector will be earning less than skilled labourers and even unskilled labourers.

By making children sit in the classrooms for hours and hours listening to boring teachers the students when they grow up, are physically weak. They cannot do any manual labour. Their enthusiasms are suppressed in the classrooms. They will be good only to work as white collar employees.

In Kerala, the Universities and the Government shows the way to exploit and maximise profits. School and college teachers, engineers and other educated people are appointed on contract basis and paying them pittance. The amount saved by squeezing out these educated people is the profit of the Universities and the government departments.

A skilled labourer gets Rs.500/- per day in Kerala. A principal in a B.Ed college too gets Rs.15,000/- per month even after decades of teaching experience and qualifications as high as double postgraduation and doctorate.

It is better to teach skilled labour in schools. Let students become strong enough and skilled enough to work as labourers. Give respect to labour. Rather than getting exploited as white collar employees, it would be better to learn less from these exploiters and start working ...

Mad teachers created state syllabus

Many researches seemed to have found that school curriculum should improve critical thinking in students.. to save the world from population turning idiots. Many researchers cooked up data that was never collected from the field and proved that critical thinking is must for children. And there are still some 'enlightened' souls who set out to write text books to improve critical thinking.

State syllabus text books are shabby in appearance (newsprint quality books with dirty grey pictures). They provide examples for how not to print books. Everywhere in the world school kids are provided colourful books that are attractive and provide them enthusiasm to learning. But in Kerala they education bosses have managed to make it the worst books in ones cupboard.

The contents are crazy. Not knowing how to create contents for improving thinking abilities, the textbook authors filled the books with endless number of questions, and 'practical' experiments. A chapter on respiration in IX Std. English medium is full of hard words describing respiratory system that a child is never going to use in her life unless she chooses a medical career..

Why should children be loaded with irrelevant contents? The textbook writers and so called educationists have made the life of child miserable. Instead of reducing burden they have added burden.. heaps of it.. they did not discard the old classical method of learning words by heart. In addition to by heart learning the child now has not been provided information in the textbooks. They have to run from pillar to post to fetch information..

Many students do not have computers and internet at home. Those who have these facilities have upper hand. There are umpteen projects to be done. Those who have computers cut and paste the pics and present.

A student of 8th std. is asking "what is the difference between sting variable and numerical variable?" Why should that kid know this sort of intricacies? There are so many thing in information technology that are soft in nature and essential for life that kids need to know before they learn 'string variable and numerical variable'.

The curriculum is designed in such a way as to create hatred for subjects in the minds of children and to torture the children. The so called educationalists who have got doctorate degrees cooking up false data can relax with plum salaries and little work.

The magic of google translate -a great language learning tool for students

For parents, teachers and teacher educators information... your teaching burden is greatly reduced from now on... Google Translate is here
Recently I came across Google Translate and I was astounded by its power..

I wrote in English "I want a cup of tea" and Google Translate gave me "मैं एक कप चाय चाहिए

I wrote "let me go to school" and the translation was "
मुझे स्कूल जाना"

"the teacher taught me Hindi" was translated to "शिक्षक ने मुझे हिंदी सिखाया"

If we press a small icon of audio in the right corner we can listen to what is translated through a voice synthesiser.

It is a great tool for students and elders to learn Hindi..and any language

Unfortunately Google Translate is not available in Malayalam language yet.

I wonder whether we need to study any more language in the future. Companies are likely to bring out translation gadgets that will translate what we say, into any other language of our choice.. be it Russian, German, Spanish.. Bengali..anything. The day is not far when we will speak in our mother toungue and gadgets attached to us will speak through a speaker in a different language.. We will thus be able to communicate with anyone in this world in their language without learning their language..

try yourself ... :)

J J Thompson, Rutherford School physics

J J Thomson discovered electrons and found that they are negatively charged particles. This video explains clearly the experiment performed by Thomson.

For cathode rays to be produced
i. There should be vacuum in the tube
ii. There should be high voltage in the tube 10 KVa to 20 KVa

The cathode rays consists of
1.negatively charged particles
2. travels in a straight line
3. speed is near to speed of light
4. when stike a heavy metal object X-rays are produced
5. Deflected towards positive charge
6. Deflected by magnetic field
7. Casts shadow when an opaque object is placed in its path

90% of UGC qualified B.Ed teachers are paid salaries only an fraction of what the rest 10% get

"There is something grotesque about the idea that 1 percent of the nation controls more wealth than the bottom 90 percent combined. There is something pitiful about the idea that the bottom 90 has endured economic exploitation in silence for years."

Occupy Wall Street is a protest against economic exploitation.

Teachers in the private/ self financing institutions are facing similar situation..

Read:

90% of
UGC qualified B.Ed college teachers are paid salaries only an fraction of what the rest 10% get every month. And they are deprived of promotions even after years and years of teaching experience..

The academic people are selfishly promoting exploitation and inequality. It is time that occupy wall street model agitations are launched here also....

Aided educational institutions sell teaching posts for lakhs of rupees... It is daylight robbery and blatant corruption.

Low salaries to teachers and teacher education part of gender exploitation

Until recently the PWD Schedule of Rates had two items of workers -man mazdoor and woman mazdoor.. Man mazdoor carried a rate of Rs.140 per day and woman mazdoor Rs.120 per day. Some intervention did take place and at present in the Schedule of Rates they have included only Mazdoor -for both man and woman equal daily wages. But in actual practice in construction sector the descrimination prevails. In actual practice women labourers get paid less than men.

Same thing is happening in teaching and teacher education field. Teaching field offers large employment. And most of the teachers are women. Being unorganised they are easy to be exploited, with low salaries. No party, not even the communist parties will come to help them.

90% of teachers in the B.Ed training colleges are women. They do not protest low wages. They are not supposed to protest, because they are women. Universities are in the forefront of the exploitation. While permanent employees of the Universities get fat salaries with DA revision and frequent salary revisions, they do not like to increase the 'salary' (or wage) of the contract teachers who constitute 90%.

Teacher Educators, who are teachers of teachers, are treated like slaves in this country. How can we expect anything positive happening here..?

New norms for teacher education mooted

Surbhi Bhatia, TNN Jun 15, 2009, 01.06am IST
Teacher education in India is all set for a revival. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) will be coming out with a new curriculum for teacher-training courses. Also, the council will be laying down strict regulatory norms to check the quality of teacher education institutes and to curb the mushrooming of sub-standard private institutes. In fact, it has decided to put a curb on the number of teacher-training institutes a state can have.
"Teacher training in India has been getting diluted over the years. There are good, bad and even worse institutes offering teacher education programmes. NCTE has already shut down more than 150 sub-standard institutes. But along with this, there is also a need to improve the quality of education in the existing institutes. Therefore, we have decided to revise the teacher education curriculum, propose new norms for institutes, new qualification for faculty and new eligibility criteria for admission of student teachers," informed Mohammad Akhtar Siddiqui, chairperson, NCTE.
As per the new norms, the council has revised the minimum eligibility criterion for admission into a BEd course from 45% to 50%. As to the faculty at the teacher-training institutes, the council has increased the qualification level. Very soon, only those with a Master's or a PhD degree in one subject, Master's in education (MEd) and a National Eligibility Test (NET) score, would be eligible to apply as a faculty member at any of the teacher-training institutes. At present, those with a BEd and a Master's degree in any subject are eligible to apply for the post of a lecturer. The council is also mooting a national level Teacher Eligibility Test on the lines of National Eligibility Test (NET) to maintain faculty standard.

Part of blame goes to teachers

Looking back to school and college days I realise how much teachers influence our interest in a subject. The teachers can make a subject boring and frustrating if their knowledge is shallow and their motivation is low.

We know that when we talk to an enthusiastic person we get inspired. Enthusiasm is contagious, just like frustration is contagious as well.

Majority of teachers are paid low salaries and there is no word called "promotion" in their career dictionary. Most of the teachers in this country of ancient "gurus" are underpaid.

Even the teachers of teachers, the faculty of B.Ed colleges, do not get enough to buy decent food and clothes for their families. Our universities treat them as beggars, following the exploitation pattern before the pre-socialistic revolutions. There is no minimum wages concept to protect the teachers from exploitation by greedy managements and even government agencies. So how can there be enthusiasm in teaching if ones career is perpetually in shambles?

A gadget that may reduce the reduce the burden of school bag

Kapil sibal unveiled a tablet computer that is supposed to be cheap (costing Rs.1700 only). Good!

But, where is the connectivity? Broadband costs Rs.900 per month for unlimited connection.

Then what is the use of a cheap tablet computer if the network costs are prohibitive?

This device possibly can reduce the burden of children who are now carrying so many books to school. But I do not know whether it can be used as an e-book.

When we talk of e-books it is the amazon kindle that comes to mind suddenly. It is slim and its screen is eye-friendly. You can store hundreds of books in kindle if you wish.

See the amazon kindle website.

It is tempting. It has similar looks like other books.
Amazon has a number of models for e-readers. In the kindle website here its specifications are given. I am cutting pasting the same below.

POOR SALARY AND SERVICE CONDITIONS OF TEACHERS OF SELF FINANCING B.ED COLLEGES RUN BY UNIVERSITIES

The salary and working conditions of teachers of self-financing B.Ed Centres run by Calicut University are as follows:

  • The teachers of University centres are referred as ‘teachers’ are not with titles as “Lecturers”, “Assistant Professors”, “Professors” and “Readers” like their counterparts in the four government B.Ed training colleges. They do not have any scope for promotions to higher posts even for those with decades of experience.
  • All faculty members are appointed on contract basis for a period of one year, with contract renewed annually. There is no job security.
  • The monthly salary of a teacher of University B. Ed centre is Rs.12,000/- and the Principals get Rs.16000/- (consolidated). Annual increment is a measly Rs.250/- Their counterparts in government enjoy UGC scale of pay with all other benefits.
  • The teacher training institutions imparts training on teaching to school teachers. However, the teachers of the B.Ed Centres run the Universities are not given participation in State the training programmes for government school teachers on latest concepts like the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) etc. The services of teachers of B.Ed centres are not utilized for governmental educational programmes. However, their service is utilized for valuation of B.Ed exam papers.
  • Ninety percent of teachers in the B.Ed centres are ladies. They do not have even maternity leave benefits. No medical benefits are available like those enjoyed by the permanent teachers in the government colleges. If fallen sick they lose their jobs for absence and do not get support for medicines.
  • Even the experience in the University B.Ed centres is not recognized by the Kerala Public Service Commission for appointments. Even Calicut university has not recognized the experience of these teachers in the B.Ed centres
  • To add to the insult, the Librarian, section officer and sweeper of the B.Ed centres are permanent employees while the Head of the Department, the Principal and all faculty members are appointed on contract basis. It is an insult to the teaching community as a whole.
  • Though ninety percent of the teacher trainers in the Kerala State are working in the private and self financing centres and they are not imparted training in school latest curriculum.

Calicut University B.Ed Centers pay low salaries to faculty members..

Universities only teach socialism and marxism. They do not follow such philosophies themselves.

The disparity between the regular permanent teachers and the contract teachers working in the University is huge and still increasing. A senior faculty member of the University gets UGC salary of around Rs.50,000 to Rs. 1 Lakh per month. Hundreds of teachers appointed on contract basis in the self financing institutions get Rs.12,000 per month and their Principals get Rs.15,000 p.m. There is no other allowances or job security. No medical benefits, insurance, provident fund, pension and no maternity leave even. If one falls sick she looses job due to absence that is all.

In the B.Ed centers of the Calicut Universities all the faculty members including the Principal are working on contract basis. There is only just one staff to run the institution- the Section Officer who is a permanent staff of the University. Besides him, the Librarian and sweeper are permanent employees of the University.

Teacher Education - Problems and Challenges

Over the last half a century and particularly, in the recent decades, teaching learning has been undergoing drastic changes. There has been a shift towards student centred classrooms with teacher’s role more as facilitator of learning rather than an autocratic master. Unlike in the past when the teacher was entrusted with transferring the contents of curriculum to a passive audience of students, today new experiments are being tried out in the classroom that includes project based learning, development of thinking skills, and discovery learning approaches. As part of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) the textbooks have also been modified (in my opinion, to make them worse than before in many respects).

Many teachers are not properly trained in implementing the concepts behind the new curriculum and many are not equipped to properly implement the curriculum.

The funniest thing is that the teacher education centres and the curriculum followed in the teacher education have very little focus on new trends in education. The SSA training programs have excluded the teacher educators and have been confined to in-service teacher training alone. The pre-service teacher education sector has been kept away from the SSA and therefore, the teacher aspirants passing out of the B.Ed colleges get exposed to the new curriculum only when they join the schools.

In Kerala Drivers and sweepers earn more than teacher educators

90 percent of B.Ed colleges are in private/self financing sector in Kerala. Only 4 government run colleges and 17 aided colleges where teacher educators have permanent employment and UGC/government salaries. In the rest of the 90% institutions teachers get Rs.10,000 to maximum of Rs.16,000 for the Principal. and all are contract employees
In Kerala a masons daily wage is Rs. 500-600 per day. The government wages of drivers appointed on contract basis is Rs.375 per day. Permanent sweepers with years of experience get more than the teacher educators, the faculty members with M.A/M.Sc an M.Ed with UGC .Doctorate in Education
How can education sector improve?

UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers

Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers
5 October 1966

The Special Intergovernmental Conference on the Status of Teachers,Recalling that the right to education is a fundamental human right,

Conscious of the responsibility of the States for the provision of proper education for all in fulfillment of Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, of Principles 5, 7 and 10 of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and of the United Nations Declaration concerning the Promotion among Youth of the Ideals of Peace, Mutual Respect and Understanding between Peoples,

Aware of the need for more extensive and widespread general and technical and vocational education, with a view to making full use of all the talent and intelligence available as an essential contribution to continued moral and cultural progress and economic and social advancement,

Recognizing the essential role of teachers in educational advancement and the importance of their contribution to the development of man and modern society,

Teacher Educators have no career opportunities

When Dr. Sreelatha M.Sc., Ph.D (Education) who was working in a priviate B.Ed college felt that doing a PhD would help her in career advancement, she could never imagined what she was stepping into. After many years of hard labour, at 42 yrs, she is still working in a self financing B.Ed center run by Calicut university, Kerala. She works on contract basis earning 16000 Rs. per month and not a paisa more as allowance. Her annual increment is a measly Rs.250/-. Many of her students have joined government/ aided schools and earns more than her.

Besides low monthly pay and job insecurity she has to suffer lot of other humiliations too, like a servant in the past. Her counterparts with same qualifications working in the government and aided colleges get about 5-6 times her salary plus all allowances including pension, medical benefits, maternity benefits, Travelling allowance, Dearness allowances, etc. and job security which she does not enjoy as a Principal of B.Ed college working on contract basis. More insulting thing is that the librarian, section officer and sweeper in the same college are permanent employees of the University. Only the faculty members and the Principal of these institutions are on contract basis. Every year the faculty members and the Principals have to apply for renewing their contracts with Calicut University and the University bosses delay their papers and as a result they have to go for months without salaries.

AICTE gives equal status to self financing teachers similar to those in government colleges

In the document cited above, the AICTE give equal treatment to faculty members of self financing institutions: READ
2.4 Self- financing Institutions:

The pay- Scales, qualifications and other associated terms as given in this notification shall be applicable to all self- financing (private un-aided) institutions.

15.4 (ii) Self- Financing Institutions
Self-Financing Institutions shall provide Dearness Allowance and other Allowances, Medical Facilities/ Group Health Insurance, Leave Encashment Facilities, Pension and other Retirement benefits (GPF-cum- Gratuity Scheme or CPF- cum –Gratuity Scheme) and group
Insurance at rates not lower than those available to teachers (or corresponding employees) in the respective State Government Service.

Educational Administrators should have vision and efficiency

Whom should one consider as GODs? They are not any imaginary entities..they are the able administrators who support a system. India has not become like Somalia or Afghanistan because we have had a number of able administrators. The efficiency of administration is a critical factor in deciding the condition of people of a land (or any system). Corrupt and inefficient administrators can spoil a system and cause loss of income and job for the employees who depend on the system.

Since able administrators are responsible for sustaining the system they are equivalent to Gods. And the inefficient stupid and corrupt managers are devils. They are responsible for the miseries people face.

See the case of KELTRON. There was a time when KELTRON was the envy of all. Now the situation is grim. Many companies have shut down due to poor administration.
Sincere dedicated and intelligent people at the helm of affairs... the system will blossom like a flower.. Stupid corrupt people without any sincerity can wither that flower in no time...
What is ailing the educational system is the lack of able administrators in the helm of affairs. It is the same with health or public works department. A few people are there who play a role in keeping the system going.. But to make the system rocking and efficient, able administrators must take charge of the affairs.
An able administrator will be good leader.. He will inspire his staff to act. He will give guidance and make available all facilities to the staff to enable them to deliver good services. He will have vision and knowledge of latest technology and management practices. He will update the system and bring it to the forefront.
We need such administrators in Education ministry, Education department, Universities.. Then they will set new trends that will trickle down to lowest levels upto primary schools. The top managers are responsible for the performance of the entire system. The top managers must be the best ..the cream..to sustain the education system
