J J Thompson, Rutherford School physics

J J Thomson discovered electrons and found that they are negatively charged particles. This video explains clearly the experiment performed by Thomson.

For cathode rays to be produced
i. There should be vacuum in the tube
ii. There should be high voltage in the tube 10 KVa to 20 KVa

The cathode rays consists of
1.negatively charged particles
2. travels in a straight line
3. speed is near to speed of light
4. when stike a heavy metal object X-rays are produced
5. Deflected towards positive charge
6. Deflected by magnetic field
7. Casts shadow when an opaque object is placed in its path
