Children love working

It is a conservative belief that childhood is the age for studying and studying alone. It is also believed by conservatives that the prime duty of children is to study and score high marks. It is also superstitiously believed that engaging children in work is child harassment.

Children are mentally tortured by this excessive, often crazy, insistence on acquisition of textbook knowledge. Parents and teachers pound on them and pester them all the time to learn textbooks. Children need to play, talk, laugh. They have also self esteem and pride and love to earn money. They will happily help parents if they could get opportunity.

I insist that it should be a study-work combination curriculum. Or it should rather be work-study. Children must learn how to work and make money. The prime duty of the society is to enable the children to start working and empowering them to do so. The society must help its children grow into adults.

The concept that all children must go to school and school alone arises from middle class parents anxiousness about their children that is carried over to educational administrators mind and deep-rooted them. The schools at present are acting as factories of unemployed youths. They kills the natural skills in children and teach them all that they actually do not need in their lives. They are made to sit in classrooms for minimum 8 hours a day continuously for 12 school years and further to their youthhood, may be upto 30 years.

The culture of work is looked upon by schools with contempt. It is crazy. Children are told to study and not work. It is the elitist ambition of the middle class parents to groom their children for a future career in IAS and engineering and similar profession. The existence of majority in the society doing works not related to these profession, is conveniently ignored.

It is not just the prerogative of the adults to enjoy freedom to do things they like. Children need to earn money and spend them on items they wish to spend on. By the time the child reaches teen years he should be into work culture so that she/he should be able to contribute towards works in the society by the age he/she is 15 -16 years.

Most of the teenage problems in advanced countries are caused as a result of undue pressures on teenagers, making them do what they do not like to do. The explosion of suppressed unfulfilling desires sometimes leads to mental depression or even acts of violence

Children, when they grow up into teens, desire to be independent. There is sudden fall in affection towards parents particularly when the parents are hindering their free lives. They are eager to enter society and play the roles of adults. In animals and birds they do not keep grown up children with them. They just leave them when the kids are strong enough to fend for themselves.

The problems is with educational models propounded by 'armchair intellectuals' who are sensitive towards needs of high class elites rather than the needs of the poor and the middle classes. The poorer classes actually would love their children to help them in their daily chores and work. Often they send their children to school due to compulsions from others or such other reasons. In the school mostly children who are helped by their parents at home perform well. The evaluation of schools is senseless because it does not consider the socio economic situations of the students while rating students.

It is necessary to have a radically different approach to education therefore
