My Criticisms on the Information Technology Curriculum:
1. The contents are primarily on free software. The most commonly used proprietary operating system and software are excluded. I have seen that the operating system Windows and office software MS Word is the most common software used in the market. Just because it is a proprietary software should not be a reason to exclude it.
2. If proprietary software is to be avoided then why not we avoid computer hardware too, because these are invented and manufactured by private sector?
3. Why should we force kids to study something that is not common in the world? First of all I doubt whether the bosses in the ministry and education department use Ubundu, Gimp etc in their homes and laptops! I am an engineer in the mid forties and have been using computers intensely since last 14 years. Even before that since my college days in 1984 I have used computers. The operating system was MS DOS at that time. And there were Word Perfect, Pascal, Cobol etc to be learnt and used at that time. I never had any training on any common software usage. I learnt everything myself. And I use them very well. Why should we ask a kid questions like 'what is a folder?' and make them explain it. Any kid will automatically learn them through training and practical applications.
4. Why should we make kids hate computers ?

Are we not going to let our kids into the world outside or is the government going to give all the kids in the state jobs in the government sector so that they will be using Ubundu, Python, Gimp and Open Office? The moment they step out of the state's cruel education system they have to deal with MS Windows, MS Word and Excel and Powerpoint.
6. Questions like See Q.5 "----------can be given before the text and after the text" clearly is intended to make students cram up or learn by heart the contents.
7.See Q.3. It is asking steps to do things in browser and some free software. The student has to answer like this (since I do not know anything about free software I am writing about MS windows based software): "Go to desktop, click start, go to program files and click, click the browser mozilla firefox..." and so on. It is the most ridiculous way to teach computers, test computer knowledge and most absurd teaching methodology.
8. I never had to answer any question paper explaining where to click click and click to do things though I click thousand different things in computers daily for various purposes. The computer curriculum makers here are simply morons not knowing how to teach students, what to teach and nothing... They are simply doing something for the sake of doing and in the process taking our kids for a ride, make them learn unwanted and irrelevant stuff, torture them with boring contents and teaching technology.. I would say the whole lot are criminally morons..
9. Please do the following:
a) teach students what the majority of world wants. Students are not sons and daughters of landlords; they have to go out and find employment after schooling; and for that they need to learn something that world uses; and majority of the world uses MS windows and MS office. And majority of the world (including me) have never heard of Python (except for the snake) programming, GIMP etc.
b) Don't make the kids explain the steps. Just conduct a practical exams to test whether they can open a browser window on their own, or insert a page number on a word processor page.. no theory questions on these practical steps please...don't harass young kids please..they are the future citizens
c) The political ideologist who is crazy about free software and want to exclude proprietary software from school curriculum should explain whether he would give state government jobs to all school kids; otherwise ask him to shut his mouth and not to play with kid's future; we don't want our kids to be guinea pigs for these ideologists
d) If the government has to save money on software purchase and has to use free software then at least they could make it interesting with more practicals than asking to write steps to things.
